The following is a summary of factors that affect immunity and control of disease. The major one among these factors are health of the colon and large intestine.
13 Factors That Impact On The Body’s Immunity
1. Poor Colon Health
Most who research the subject report at least 70% to 80% of the body’s immune function begins in the intestines, especially the large intestine and colon. Accumulation of encrusted fecal material and undigested food particles prevent proper assimilation of needed nutrients. Some nutrients, especially calcium, are dependent upon bacteria of the colon.
With the accumulation of fecal material in the colon, toxins are trapped there and not excreted. They become re-absorbed into the blood where they can overwhelm the immune system. Individual cells communicate with each other and proper signaling is conducted by a good bacterial flora. What this means is on a cellular level, the bacteria communicate to various cells to track down the enemy. Unfortunately when the bacterial balance is disrupted with loss of good bacteria and fecal blockage accumulates toxins, clear signaling is thwarted and immunity suffers.
2. Nervous System and Immune System Communication
Respected neurosurgeon and researcher Dr. Russell Blaylock reports: The brain and the immune system are “constantly communicating with each other and influencing each other’s functions”. This should not be surprising since many hormones are activated or released by thinking and other brain functions. Individual cells are found to communicate with each other on a chemical basis.
Toxins have a big influence on the immune system. All functions of the body from thinking to glandular function rely upon chemical communications. Toxins affect neural conduction, cellular metabolism, and virtually all biochemical activities of your body. Toxins thwart immune function.
Chronic stress produces chemical changes that influence hormones (especially cortisol). This produces negative signals, corrupts balanced cellular function throughout your body and compromises the immune system. Many people witness this because they notice high stress levels correlate to increased infections…colds, flu and etc.
5. Lack of Sleep
Stress is disruptive to good sleep. In addition, many people “burn the candle at both ends”. They allow over commitment and perceived priorities to sacrifice good sleep time. This is not good and very disruptive to proper body repair and rejuvenation. Immune function automatically suffers.
6. Destructive Foods
Many people mistakenly believe that a good diet consists of canned fruits, vegetables and other prepared foods. Heat at 118 to 126 degrees Fahrenheit destroys many enzymes. Preservatives poison and sabotage the food chain. Elimination of some food types such as a fat elimination diet is counter-productive. Too much sugar and salt unbalance and disrupt your biochemistry.
Sugar in particular, is excessive in the American diet. The average consumption in most good studies finds a per capita consumption of 139 pounds to 159 pounds. Yet, nearly everyone denies it applies to them. Sugar is found, not just in drinks and sweet desserts, but in virtually all prepared foods and condiments…soups, spaghetti sauces, breads, etc. Sugar is particularly harmful when concentrated in the form of pure crystalline table sugar and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Isolation of the sugar from its original plant sources eliminates many enzymes, fiber, phytonutrients, minerals and biochemicals that help the body metabolize and handle sugar. Sugar compromises the phagocytic index. What this means is that it hinders the ability of white blood cells to destroy bacteria, viruses and pathologic cells.
8. Inadequate Diet
Proper use of food and nutrients swallowed is very important. With the emphasis on prepared, preserved and non-spoiling foods, proper diet suffers. Why? Because most enzymes and many nutrients are destroyed by canning, pasteurization and preservation. Overconsumption of sugar and salt disrupt the appetite and body chemistry. The food industry has found that sweet and salty always sells better. A loss of good antioxidants and phytonutrients from raw fresh fruits and vegetables compromise the ability of the immune system to function.
Vaccinations over stimulate the immune system and create hyperactivity, when they overload the immune system. The immune system becomes so aggressive that it attacks it own body cells and destroys them. It is called auto immune disease. It is believed that there are over 100 of these autoimmune diseases. Two common and well-known ones are rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. Auto immune disease produces allergies and antibodies where they should not occur. Aches, pains and low energy are common symptoms of autoimmune disease.
10. Hormone and Glutamate Imbalances
Some hormones such as cortisol and catecholamines (epinephrine and nor-epinephrine) directly suppress the immune system. Improper balance of the sex hormones (testosterone and the estrogens) is correlated to certain types of cancer. Their influence compromises the natural ability of the body to fight cancer, so cancer flourishes. Hyper-stimulated immune system creates problems. Certain substances, especially glutamate (found in MSG and aspartame sweetener) over excite the immune cells (microglia) and cause their destruction. The phenomenon is called excitotoxicity…the death of nerve cells.
Researcher and Neurosurgeon Dr. Blaylock says glutamate is harmless when inside the cells where concentrations are normally 1000% higher than outside the brain cells. When brain cells are exposed to glutamate from the outside, the cell death happens within one hour.
Neuroscientist John Olney in 1968 found the amino acid glutamate could cause brain cells to overexcite and self destruct (excitotoxicity). Certain additives, such as those found in aspartame (sugar substitute) and MSG (monosodium glutamate flavor enhancer), are killers of brain cells.
Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D. says he sees 50% more brain tumors in those patients who consume these products regularly. Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS are all associated with destruction of brain cells.
Dr. Blaylock reports glutamate does account for 90% of the communication in the cortex and over 50% of all brain communications. It is extremely important for the proper brain function but too much of it in concentrated form is destructive to brain health and immune function.
Certain drugs, most antibiotics and many chemo therapy drugs, suppress the immune system. This makes your body susceptible to infections and can actually increase the incidence of cancers.
There are antioxidant vitamins that enhance the immune system and are shown to reduce diseases…even cancer, when in optimal levels. These vitamins are A, C, D and E.
With age, the assimilation and absorption of nutrients and the manufacture of hormones and various enzymes and biochemicals needed by the immune system becomes compromised and reduced.
